Installment payments are the cheapest conversion feature most online stores never finish setting up. A customer who hesitates at 250 KWD often says yes when the same product reads as four payments of 62.500 KWD. The work is not adding the button; it is making the numbers, the terms and the support hold up after the click.
For most small and mid-size stores the first two are enough. Only run installments yourself if someone on the team reconciles balances every week.
To the customer, zero interest means the price stays the same. In your books it means a cut from your margin. Providers take a percentage of every order, sometimes with a fixed fee on small baskets. Run the maths on your average order value, not your most expensive product.
A worked example: an item earns 18 KWD of margin. A 4% commission on a 250 KWD order costs you 10 KWD, leaving 8. If the option genuinely adds orders, that is fine. If it only moves a customer who would have paid cash anyway, you just bought your own sale.
Customers do not only question the price on the product page. They question it again in the cart and again at payment. Show the split in all three places:
How many payments, how often, whether there is a late fee, and which products qualify. State any minimum and maximum order value. Vague terms produce phone calls, and phone calls produce refunds. One short paragraph on the product page and one line at checkout is usually enough.
Most installment complaints are not technical. They are "why was I rejected", "when is my payment due" and "how do I cancel the plan". Write canned answers for those three, name one owner per case, and make sure the order number appears in every confirmation message.
Installments work when the whole path is clear, from the first click to the last payment. Q8DM is a Kuwaiti software development, design and training company working since 1998, and it helps stores connect payment providers and clean up checkout flows.
