You paid a designer, approved a logo you liked, put it on your shop sign, and it came out blurry. Or the printer told you the file was unusable. The logo was fine. The files were the problem. Many businesses in Kuwait close the project as soon as they see a design they like, and only find out months later that they own nothing usable. Here is exactly what to ask for before you pay the final invoice.
The file your designer shows you on screen is not the file you will use. A screenshot or a JPEG looks acceptable when small and falls apart the moment it is enlarged. A proper vector file scales to any size without losing quality. That difference shows up on banners, vehicle signage, stamps and printed packaging, and also on your website and social profiles. Companies that skip this step come back a year later asking for files the designer no longer has, then pay to have the logo rebuilt from scratch.
Ask for all of these in one message, and do not accept them in pieces:
Without the vector file you cannot edit or resize anything yourself, and you stay dependent on someone else for a change as small as the background colour.
Along with the files, ask for a short one or two page brand guide listing the exact colour codes, font names, the minimum clear space around the logo, and the uses that are not allowed. That guide keeps your brand consistent once more than one person is producing material for the company.
Ownership matters too. Have the rights documented in writing so it is clear that you own the logo and its files, not just a licence to display it. Keep a master copy yourself instead of leaving it with the designer.
Then organise the files with clear names: company name, file type, version. Store them in one shared location the team can reach, not on a single employee laptop.
At Q8DM we regularly rebuild logo files for companies that only inherited a screenshot, and it is always cheaper to ask for the right files at handover. If you want your brand files organised properly from the first time, reach out through https://q8dm.com and we will set them up for you.
