Privacy Policy for Your Website: The Basics That Protect You

Q8DM Blog

Any website that collects a name, an email or a phone number needs a privacy policy, even if it never sells anything. The page is not legal decoration. It tells visitors what you collect, why you collect it, and who else sees it. Gulf customers increasingly look for it before they trust a form.

What the Policy Must Cover

Write it around your real data flow, not a template copied from another country.

Write It in Language Your Customer Reads

Long legal text copied from a foreign template damages trust more than having no policy at all. Use short paragraphs, name the tools you actually use, and put the last-updated date at the top. If your site is Arabic-first, publish an Arabic version and keep the English one for reference; never let one language lag behind after an update.

Link the page from the footer of every page, from checkout, and from every form that collects data. At checkout, one line above the submit button is enough: continuing means agreeing to the privacy policy, with a link that actually opens.

Updates, Cookies and Third Parties

Every time you add a tool that touches customer data, a chat widget, a tracking pixel or a newsletter platform, the policy must be updated the same week. Keep a short internal log of what changed and when. If you use cookies for analytics or advertising, say so and explain how a visitor refuses them.

Q8DM reviews the data flow before writing the text, because the page has to describe the system that actually runs, not the one drawn in the proposal.

A Practical Starting Checklist

List the forms on your site and what each one collects. List the external services connected to them. Write one paragraph per purpose. Add retention periods you can honour. Add a contact address that someone monitors. Publish it, link it from the footer, and set a reminder to review it every six months.

Do this before a customer asks. A clear policy is cheap to write and expensive to fix after a complaint. For help documenting your data flow, drafting Arabic and English versions, or adding a proper consent step at checkout, contact Q8DM at q8dm.com.
