Many sales managers and accountants in Kuwait build forecasts on gut feel or on a single month's number. The result is figures that are too high or too low, and stock decisions resting on a weak base. The good news: you can build a sensible forecast inside Excel itself, with data you already have, and no expensive system or long consulting project. The goal is simple: a number you can explain, and refresh every month.
A small company does not need complex models or machine learning. It needs a reasonable number to support three decisions: how much stock to order, how to plan cash to month end, and how to set the team's target. A simple forecast on clean data beats an advanced model built on messy data. The real value is not decimal accuracy, it is deciding with more confidence and knowing the likely margin of error.
Every forecast breaks if the source data is flawed. Before any formula, arrange your table so each row is one sale with a date and an amount, and keep the columns consistent. Ten minutes of tidying saves you hours of fixing later.
The simplest start is a three-month average with AVERAGE; it smooths the bumps and gives you a baseline the numbers move around. Then look at the general direction: is the line rising, falling, or flat? Use FORECAST.LINEAR with your known x and y ranges to get next month's figure. If the pattern is clearly seasonal, TREND can produce forecasts for several months at once. Most importantly, add a month column and compare each month with the same month last year, because Ramadan, the Eid holidays, and summer clearly change demand.
Make the decision easier with three numbers: cautious, expected, and optimistic. Set the expected figure as your baseline, then cautious at 90% of it and optimistic at 115%, each in a separate cell so you can change it in one click. Show all three on a line chart against actual sales so you can read the path at a glance. The most common mistakes we see are forecasts built on dirty data, mixing revenue with profit, and ignoring Ramadan and the holidays. Fix those three before you expand the model, and refresh the figures every month rather than trusting an old forecast.
