Website Analytics: The Numbers That Matter

Q8DM Blog

Most business owners in Kuwait open their analytics dashboard, see a wall of numbers, and close the tab again. You do not need all of them. A handful of metrics, checked once a month, tells you whether your website is pulling its weight. Here is a ten-minute dashboard you can run yourself.

Why monthly beats daily

Daily traffic jumps around for no real reason: one news mention, one slow day, one campaign ending. Monthly numbers show direction. Pick the same date each month and compare with the previous month and with the same month last year, not with a random Tuesday.

The numbers worth checking

Read direction, not single numbers

Numbers mean little on their own. If visitors went up but conversion dropped, the problem is the page, not the reach. If visitors dropped but conversion held steady, you may simply be attracting fewer, better-qualified people, which is not automatically bad news.

Numbers you can ignore

Total page views, average session duration and the site-wide bounce rate send a weak signal at best, and they rarely justify a decision. Do not build a plan on them. Track the end result instead: how many enquiries or quote requests landed this month, and which pages produced them.

Make it a habit

Before you trust any of it, check the setup: tracking code on every page, your own team's visits excluded, and referral spam filtered. Numbers built on dirty data are worse than no numbers, because you act on them with confidence.

Then write two lines: what changed, and why. Pick one action for next month, such as fixing a page, speeding up the site or testing a new ad message. One action that ships beats ten you never start.
