A Simple Weekly Sales Sheet

Q8DM Blog

Most small companies in Kuwait only know how the month went once the month is over. That is late. If you discover on the 30th that a product has been slipping, you have already lost three weeks in which someone could have acted. A simple weekly sales sheet gives you the same information in seven days. It does not need an expensive system or a data analyst โ€” it needs one spreadsheet and the discipline to fill it in every week.

What to Record

The rule: record the fewest fields you can, but do it consistently. Every column needs a clear reason to exist, otherwise the sheet gets heavy and gets abandoned after a month.

One point most people skip: decide who fills it in and who reviews it. If the sheet belongs to everybody, it will end up belonging to nobody. One person spending ten minutes every Sunday beats a perfect plan that never gets followed.

Calculating the Numbers Without Complexity

Three calculated cells are enough: average order value, change against last week, and the difference in dinars. Anything more distracts the team. If you can, compare the same week last year, because Kuwait's seasons โ€” Ramadan, Eid, the start of the school year โ€” shift the numbers enough that comparing against an ordinary week misleads you.

Reading the Sheet Properly

The numbers alone say nothing; interpreting them is the real work.

Not every drop is a problem. Some weeks fall for obvious reasons: a public holiday, or a decision to cut ad spend. What matters is that the note is written at the time, because a month later nobody remembers the cause and the number becomes just a number.

When you write notes every week, you build a memory for the business. After three months you can connect cause to result, and that is the difference between managing on instinct and managing with data.

Tools That Are More Than Enough

You do not need specialised software. One spreadsheet with a dashboard tab and a data tab, with the chart refreshed weekly, covers most small companies. If the sheet gets heavy, or you need reports across several branches, planning the system properly at that point saves a lot of time later.

Keep the update path short: one file, fixed columns, and a backup in the cloud. If you have to open three files to find one number, the sheet has become an obstacle rather than a tool.

The Short Version

Open a spreadsheet today, name the columns, and record this week's numbers. Do not wait for a perfect system โ€” the weekly habit is the whole difference. Expect the first two weeks to be incomplete; build the habit first, then change the columns based on what you actually use.
