Designing with White Space: Why Empty Space Matters

When space is sufficient, important elements stand out on their own without shouting through color. Common mistakes that create noisy space

The biggest mistake is random spacing: 20 pixels here and 45 there with no system. Spacing should follow a scale, such as multiples of 4 or 8 pixels, so every section shares the same rhythm. A second mistake is padding weak content. Adding space does not fix a thin page; it only makes it longer. A third is writing long paragraphs with no breathing room, so readers lose their place and give up.

Treat space as a decision, not a leftover. Set fixed values for margins and gaps, test them on a real phone rather than only on a desktop monitor, and remove any element that does not serve the page goal.
